Pocket Gospel home screen with today's study and verse of the day

The questions you'd never post on main.

Everyone has these. Nobody types them into an app that ships their words to a server. Pocket Gospel runs the model on your iPhone, so you can type the real question and get a real passage back.

Pocket Gospel answering: I lied to my parents again. Help me actually mean it this time.
Pocket Gospel answering a question about masturbation and sin.
Pocket Gospel answering: I hate my dad right now. Is that okay?
Pocket Gospel answering: Why does everyone my age feel behind on life?
Pocket Gospel answering: I feel like God is ignoring me.
Pocket Gospel answering: I haven't opened my bible in 6 months and I feel fake.
"I lied to my parents again. help me actually mean it this time."Proverbs 15 and John 8 on honesty and the hard work of meaning it.
"is masturbation a sin?"A careful read of what Scripture actually says — not a dodge and not a lecture.
"I hate my dad right now. is that okay?"Proverbs 15:18 on anger that doesn't get buried and doesn't get to run the show.
"why does everyone my age feel behind on life"Matthew 6:34 and the quiet case against measuring your life by other people's timelines.
"I feel like God is ignoring me"Psalm 139 and James 1:17 on a God who sees even when the silence feels loud.
"I haven't opened my bible in 6 months and I feel fake"Matthew 11:28 — the invitation was never about your streak.

Every answer cites chapter and verse. Tap any verse to jump into the full reader. And none of these prompts ever left the iPhone — there's no server to leave for.

Start from what you feel

You don't need the right words. Start with the feeling.

Tap a mood and Pocket Gospel pulls the passages that speak to it. No typing a "good" prayer. No scrolling through verse lists trying to find one that fits.

It's the fastest path from "I don't know how to pray about this" to the actual Scripture that does.

Burned outburnout and rest
Heartbrokenheartbreak and grief
Temptedtemptation and self-control
Jealousjealousy and envy

Not vibes. Not therapy-speak.
Actual passages.

Every answer cites chapter and verse from the World English Bible. Tap any verse to jump straight into the reader. When the question is heavier than a passage alone can hold, the app says so, and points you toward a real person.

Is it okay to doubt?
Doubt shows up all over Scripture, and it is not treated as the opposite of faith so much as the place where faith often has to speak honestly. The Bible makes room for people who are confused, afraid, and not fully certain, yet still turning toward God and asking for help instead of walking away in silence.
Mark 9:24 • Jesus
"I believe; help my unbelief!"
what was Jesus' biggest fear?
Scripture shows a moment in Gethsemane where Jesus openly names dread instead of hiding it or pretending it is not there. He is not afraid in a vague way. He is staring at the cup ahead of him, feeling the full weight of suffering and obedience, and still bringing that fear honestly to the Father.
Luke 22:42 • Jesus
"Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done."

02 / PRIVATE

Nothing leaves your iPhone.

Questions don't go to a server, an API, or a training pipeline. The model lives on your device. No analytics on what you type. Nobody — including us — sees what you ask.

Subway, flight, woods — still works.

After setup, the app runs with airplane mode on. The Bible is bundled, and your chosen model stays stored on your iPhone. No signal required.

We built this because we wanted a Bible app that couldn't rat on us.

  • No accounts. You don't sign up. There's nothing to sign up for.
  • No server that stores your chats. There's no cloud chat history because there's no cloud. Chats live on your iPhone only. Delete them, they're gone.
  • No analytics on what you type. Prompts never leave the device, so there's nothing to analyze, log, or train on.
  • No ads. No trackers. No third-party SDKs listening in. Nothing on this page is lying to you.
  • Always free. No subscription. No "premium" tier that unlocks the good answers. Free doesn't mean "free until we monetize you" — we don't have anything to monetize.
  • Open about what's bundled. Bible: World English Bible (public domain). Offline chat runs on small on-device models downloaded to your iPhone during setup.
Questions we actually get asked

The straight answers.

If something isn't here, the support page has more, or you can read the full privacy policy.

Is it actually free? Like, forever?

Yes. Always. The core app is free forever — no subscriptions, no ads, no upsell tiers, no "premium features" hiding the real answers. The model runs on your iPhone, so there's no per-message server cost for us to pass along.

We'd rather keep it simple than invent a way to charge you.

What does "offline" really mean?

After a one-time setup — where you download the Bible text and a small language model to your device — Pocket Gospel works with airplane mode on. Subway, flight, camping trip, signal dead: still works.

The internet is only needed on first launch.

Do you see my questions?

No. Your prompts never leave your iPhone. There is no server we could store them on, no analytics capturing what you type, no logging, no training pipeline. That's why the app can be honest about hard questions — there's literally nobody else in the room.

Which Bible translation does it use?

The World English Bible (WEB) — a modern, public-domain English translation. The full text is bundled with the app, so the reader works offline too.

What iPhone do I need?

A recent iPhone. The chat runs on Apple's on-device MLX framework, so newer devices are noticeably faster — but the app is built to stay usable across the current iPhone lineup. During setup you pick a model size that fits your device.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. On-device chat relies on Apple's MLX framework, which is iOS-only. An Android build would need a different on-device tech stack, so it's not on the short list.

Does this replace a pastor, a church, or a therapist?

No. Pocket Gospel is a study companion. It cites the passage and gets out of your way. It is not a counselor, not a spiritual authority, and not a substitute for a real person when you need one. When a question is heavier than a passage can carry, the app says so and points you toward actual help.

An honest ask

Keep it free.

Pocket Gospel is free forever — no ads, no subscription, no tiers. If it's helping you, you can chip in so it stays that way for everyone else.

Pay what feels right, one time, minimum $1. Handled by Stripe. We never see your card, you get nothing extra for giving — that was the whole point.

  • Covers the Apple developer fee that keeps it on the App Store.
  • Pays for model-research time so answers get better, not chattier.
  • Lets us keep saying no to ads and analytics SDKs.
